Clip of A Midsummer Night's Dream (2013)
produced at the Trinidad Theatre Workshop

This is a clip of a recording of a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream that I directed in 2013. The film is not great quality, but it is one of the only recordings I have of the theatrical work I did in Trinidad and Tobago between 2012 and 2017. This production toured around secondary schools (high schools) around the country, and also ran for three weeks in the capital to sold-out houses. Using local Carnival traditions, this production placed this timeless comedy within the framework of Trinidad and Tobago Carnival, providing local legibility to the text, and also revealing true nature of Shakespeare's woodland creatures. Additionally, but using Trinidadian Creole inflection and pronunciation, the Shakespeare text was able to sound almost contemporary. This production began my exploration of postcolonial theatre technique application and the theories developed here continue to serve me today.
